The master's thesis is always taken at UGent and not at the host institution (with the exception of some double degree programmes). The procedure for applying for a master's thesis topic and the course of action for exchange students is the same for exchange as for other students. The deadlines for choosing the subject, interim evaluation and submission of the paper are identical. However, it is particularly important to choose your subject in time, i.e. during the summer, and to inform the supervisor when you apply that you will be abroad during the first semester. The supervisor can assess whether or not this is a problem for the subject. It also allows you to agree in advance how you will deal with the fact that you will be abroad in the first semester so that everything can be completed without problems. Many Graduate Schools hold information sessions about the master's thesis before the summer break, at which they also present the topics. Attending the session relevant to you and contacting the supervisor in time is recommended. More information on the master's thesis can be found in the Ufora course Master's Thesis FEB (FX00002).
